Josh Waring, owner of
Hurricane Racing has always been on the fast track.
Josh moved from Miami to Concord with his family in 1993 due to
Hurricane Andrew (thus Hurricane Racing) taking away their lives
as they knew them. After getting a taste of racing in karts, he
knew he was destined to make his living in motorsports.
While participating in karts competition and attending Concord
High School, Josh decided he wanted to complete high school
quickly, so he could pursue his interest in racing. He
graduated from Concord High in 1998 (a year early) and was
accepted at UNCC on full scholarship. Josh graduated with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on motorsports
in 2002.
In the fall of 1997, Josh traded his karts for a Legend car. He
had many accomplishments in karts and felt like it was time to
pursue another division of racing, and that he did 1998 was
a great year for Josh. He won the National and North
Carolina State points championships in semi-pro, as well as, the
Young Lions National Championship.
Life changed for Josh in 1999. Attending college full time and
not having the time to devote to racing as he liked, he bought a
tire machine and started cutting tires to make some extra money
and stay in touch with the Legends series. Upon graduation from
UNCC, Josh went into business full time, setting up and
repairing Legends and cutting tires.
In 2003, Josh raced to win the Caraway track championship in the
Pro Division in Asheboro. In 2004, Josh had the racing bug
again. He came home from Orlando with the Winter National
Championship in February, won the Summer Shootout, and the
Championship at Lowes Motor Speedway. At the end of the year
he was on such a roll, Josh decided to go to the National Dirt
Races in Indiana although he had never raced dirt, and ended up
winning the National Dirt Championship Race. With that
championship in Indiana and his finish in the National Asphalt
Races in Las Vegas, Josh was crowned the Grand National Champion
for 2004. All the championships were great, but the best
experience was meeting his future wife, Angie. Since then Josh
has raced some and has even tried his hand at Roadsters, being
runner up in the National Points Competition for the King of
Ovals in 2007.
In October of 2007, Josh took some well deserved time off and he
and Angie were married. They now reside in Concord with their
dog, Diesel.
Joshs interest in driving has changed now that he is married and
has additional responsibilities. He still loves being involved
with the Legend Series and has expanded his business by hiring
additional people to help in their areas of expertise. Josh
enjoys the accomplishments of his clients on the track, knowing
that he had a hand in their success.
